Gentle yoga
A gentle stretching class for improving mobility, flexibility, balance and finding inner calm and relaxation.
This class will suit people who are finding their bodies are getting stiffer as they get older, people who have stopped yoga and would like to restart or for anyone new to yoga. Gentle yoga can also help people with busy lives, giving time and space to slow down and refocus the mind. Props are often used to help the body stretch and move into a posture.
-

Strong yoga
A strong Hatha/Vinyasa style yoga class whereby postures are held for longer periods of time but often moving and flowing from one posture to another.
These classes are for people wanting more strength and flexibility. Postures can be more challenging than in the gentle yoga class, but as with all my classes, there is no pressure to move into a pose. Props can be used to help with alignment, strength and relaxation.
-

Chair yoga
A simple stretching, balance and relaxation class suitable for older adults, beginners to yoga, people with mobility issues, injuries or anyone who wants to improve movement, balance and flexibility.
All exercises are seated on the chair or standing using the chair as a stable prop for balance if mobility allows. These classes are for people that have stiff or achey muscles and joints and need a safe and enjoyable class to move and rest the body and mind.
Chair yoga is a positive and fun class with the intention to move the whole body on the chair, strengthen the muscles and help with cognitive skills, balance and co-ordination.
-

Yin yoga
Yin yoga is occasionally incorporated into the mat-based classes or on mini retreats.
Postures are floor based and held for periods of around 3-5 minutes stretching the deep connective tissue such as fascia, ligaments and joints rather than muscles.
These postures are based on Traditional Chinese Medicine to improve energy flow around the body and help with flexibility, joint mobility, deep relaxation and stress reduction.
-

Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is often referred to as ‘Yogic deep sleep’ and is practiced lying down.
It is a deep guided meditation practice that slows the body and mind into a state between waking and sleeping. It usually last around 15-30 minutes so is used in a longer yoga session like a mini retreat. It helps to reduce stress, tension, promotes healing and aids better sleep.

Yoga retreats
Mini Yoga retreats are available periodically during the year and usually last for 2 hours. In this time you will start with a Hatha style flow to stretch and warm up the body. This will be followed by Restorative and Yin postures to relax the muscles and stretch the fascia or deep connective tissue.
The retreat will end with a Yoga Nidra guided meditation for deep relaxation. Some retreats may have a Soundbath to end the session. Please contact Elaine for details of upcoming retreats.
